Structural Laminating Complete!

After a few miscues, the structural laminating is complete!  Wednesday night we'll cut out the profile & knotch the keel.  This means we'll be 3-D pirateshipping in 2 days!

Thursday is hopefully a night of consulting with the ordinance expert (paintball technology).  The weekend will be spent on land-lubber's household work...

Next week:  Drive line.  Anyone with a dead gas-powered weed eater please donate the shaft!  I'm thinking we'll need 2.

Photo Below:
-Last laminated bulkheads pressing in the foreground.
-One laminated bulkhead at the bottom of the pile.
-One pirate sword (10 more in stock).
-4 or so extra sheets of full-sized stock
-1 huge pile of little pieces / scraps.  Many to be laminated for cannon construction (have to consult with the machinist).

A few more bulkheads made...

Ok, after lunch we made a few more bulkheads.  About 10 to go!  Going to run out of cardboard soon though.  DOH!  Still have plenty of glue.

Not all helpers are human!

A little more history...

Work started in mid-may, building a solidworks model from an online boat plan of the French Warship La Couronne.

Keel Cut out!

Marshall helped cut the keel (photos on last post). Here's us playing with the keel!

Back to the Drawing Board!

Oops - spend a day cutting out the wrong size bulkheads - 40% too small! 2 Redone, 10 to go...
We'll have plenty of scrap 2-ply cardboard for cannon & decorations!
Marshall's been helping!

More Keel Pictures

Here's some more keel night pictures!

Note the high-quality person embedded in the ship - it's mid-way through resizing the components (40% larger) - the fore bulkheads are already resized but will probably grow another 50% in the beam.

If only that bit of hair would give up & go away - then I could just be bald!

Here's the stuff I'm getting away from by doing the boat!

Keel Laid - May 27th

Spent the evening with Jami laying the keel of the pirate ship. Actually, laminating 4-ply of a 42x169" section (with a 42x60" bit at the back).
Used way too much glue - about 1.5 gallons. I'll be glue shopping in the morning!
